Capital.com: the connection
Trader, Pro and Fleet plans.
Capital.com is a CFD broker with a platform of its own. TakeJournal reads your Capital.com accounts through its API with an API key you make in the platform and your login, at each sync. It only reads: it never sends, changes or cancels an order.
Add the connection
Section titled “Add the connection”Make the key first: turn on two-factor sign-in, then in Settings › API integrations, Generate new key: a name, a password of the key’s own (not your sign-in’s) and the two-factor code. The key is shown once; keep it. A demo account can have a key too. Capital.com makes no read-only keys; TakeJournal uses the key for reading only.
Then Connections → Add connection, type Capital.com, a name, and:
- Demo or live: where the key belongs. A demo key signs in to demo only.
- API key: the key you made. It is stored encrypted.
- Login (e-mail): the e-mail you sign in to Capital.com with.
- The key’s password: the password you set when you made the key. It is stored encrypted and used for nothing but reading; it is deleted with the connection.
Add connection saves it and starts the first sync. Test login on the connection’s card lists the accounts Capital.com shows for the login; a refused sign-in says so on the card, with what Capital.com answered.
What it reads
Section titled “What it reads”- Every account of the login (Capital.com keeps one per currency), named as the platform names it with its currency
(
Account · CZK), with its balance and open result as Capital.com shows them at each sync. - Each deal that opened, closed or partly closed a position: a fill at its level, its units in the journal’s lots (100,000 units of EUR/USD are a lot). Capital.com gives the history a day at a time, so the first sync reads a year back day by day; later syncs read from a week before the last fill.
- Deposits, withdrawals and transfers between your accounts, the overnight swaps, the commissions and Capital.com’s other money (fees, bonuses, corrections, conversions), into the account’s ledger.
- The markets as the journal’s forex, metal, index and other CFD contracts, named by the market’s epic:
EURUSD,GOLD→XAUUSD,US500. - Each account’s open positions, compared with your fills, so a close the history left out is found (A missing close).
What it leaves out
Section titled “What it leaves out”- Swaps and commissions on the trade itself: they show in the ledger, by the market’s name.
- Margin holds (Capital.com’s reserves): they are no money moved.
