Match-Trader: the connection

Trader, Pro and Fleet plans.

Match-Trader is the trading platform of many forex and CFD prop firms and brokers. TakeJournal reads a Match-Trader trading account through the platform’s Trader API with a token you make in the platform, at each sync. It only reads: it never opens, changes or closes a position or an order.

Your broker or prop firm has to enable the Trader API. If the platform has no API Access view, it is not enabled for your account: ask your firm, or import the closed positions as a file instead.

Make the token first: in the platform, open API Access, create a token, give it a name and choose read-only (TakeJournal needs nothing more), pick how long it lasts (30 days to a year) and copy it. The platform shows the token once. A token belongs to one trading account: make one for each account you want in the journal.

Then Connections → Add connection, type Match-Trader, a name, and:

  • API token: the token you copied. It is stored encrypted and used for nothing but reading; it is deleted with the connection.

Add connection saves it and starts the first sync. Test login on the connection’s card lists the account; a refused token says so on the card. A token stops working when it expires or when you revoke it: make a new one and paste it into the connection.

  • The trading account, named by its login (a demo account with “(demo)”), in its currency, with its balance and open result as the platform shows them at each sync.
  • Each closed position: an opening and a closing fill, in the platform’s lots, at its opening and closing price. A position closed in parts comes in as its parts, which add up to the position. The commission is the closing fill’s cost, the swap its swap.
  • The instruments as the journal’s forex, metal and CFD contracts with the platform’s units a lot (a CFD’s contract size times its multiplier).
  • Deposits, withdrawals and credit, into the account’s ledger. The swaps, commissions and results the platform’s ledger also lists stay on the trades.

The first sync reads the account’s whole history, a month at a time; later syncs read from a week before the last fill.

  • An open position: the Trader API lists a position’s opening only once it is closed, so a trade comes in when you close it.
  • The spread: the platform’s prices already include it, as in your account statement.
