TopstepX: connect through the ProjectX API

Trader, Pro and Fleet plans.

TopstepX runs on ProjectX, whose API lets other applications read your accounts with a key you make yourself. TakeJournal reads your Combine, XFA and Practice accounts; Live Funded accounts are not on the API. It only reads: it never places, changes or cancels an order. Nothing runs on your PC.

The key needs ProjectX’s API Access subscription: at dashboard.projectx.com, $29 a month, and the code topstep takes 50% off. Then in TopstepX, Settings → API: link the subscription and make an API key there.

Connections → Add connection, type TopstepX and choose TopstepX (ProjectX), a name, and:

  • TopstepX user name: your platform login, not your e-mail.
  • API key: the key from TopstepX’s Settings → API. It is stored encrypted and used for reading only; it goes with the connection.
  • Include inactive accounts: Yes syncs ended and inactive accounts too (they count against your plan’s accounts).

Add connection saves it and starts the first sync. Test login on the card lists the accounts the key sees.

  • Each account, named as TopstepX names it, in dollars.
  • The fills, with their fees: the first time the last 60 days, then from a day before the last sync.
  • The 1-second bars of each trade’s window, for the trade’s chart and MFE/MAE from bars; TopstepX has no ticks, so a trade’s edges keep the fill prices.
  • Each account’s open positions, compared with your fills, so a close the history left out is found (A missing close).

TakeJournal signs in with the key and renews its access by itself, so the connection keeps working without you. A key TopstepX refuses (expired subscription, key deleted) fails the sync with TopstepX’s reason; make a new key and save it on the card with Edit.
