cTrader: connect through the Open API
Trader, Pro and Fleet plans.
cTrader lets other applications read an account through its Open API, with the permission you give at cTrader: you sign in with your cTrader ID, choose the accounts and allow TakeJournal to view them. TakeJournal asks for view-only access: it never places an order and cannot. Nothing runs on your PC; the sync reads the accounts from TakeJournal’s server, also while cTrader is closed.
Add the connection
Section titled “Add the connection”Connections → Add connection, type cTrader, and a name (the broker, say). The connection’s card offers Connect cTrader.
Connect your cTrader ID
Section titled “Connect your cTrader ID”- Connect cTrader opens cTrader’s page. Sign in with your cTrader ID, the one you use in cTrader Desktop, Web or the app.
- Choose the accounts TakeJournal may view, live or demo, at any broker on cTrader, and allow the access.
- cTrader brings you back to Connections: the message says the connection is connected, and the first sync starts.
Later, Connect again on the card adds accounts you did not choose the first time, or renews the access after cTrader ended it; the sync says when that is needed.

What it reads
Section titled “What it reads”- Each account you allowed, named by its number and its broker (
5123456 (IC Markets)), in its deposit currency. - The deals: the first time from the account’s opening, then with each sync from a week before the last trade. A deal is a fill keyed by its number, in lots; its commission is its cost, and the swap is on the deal that closes.
- The symbols as the journal’s forex, metal and CFD contracts with the broker’s lot size, named as the imports name
them (
EUR/USD→EURUSD). - Deposits and withdrawals into the account’s ledger; the broker’s other balance operations (fees, bonuses, dividends, transfers between your accounts) as credits and debits.
- The account’s balance as cTrader keeps it, shown live on the account’s page.
- cTrader’s times are UTC, so nothing has to be converted.
- Each account’s open positions, compared with your fills, so a close the history left out is found (A missing close).
The access
Section titled “The access”TakeJournal renews its access token by itself before it ends, so the connection keeps working without you. To end the access, delete the connection.
